What applications can run on secureVirtual Workspace?
secureVirtual Workspace runs Windows Server 2003 and a number of flavours of Linux, so generally any application that runs on Windows Server 2003 or Linux will run on secureVirtual Workspace. However, secureVirtual Workspace is not suited for applications that require rapidly changing graphical images, such as video playback and editing. Please contact our support team to ask about specific applications.

Common applications run on secureVirtual Workspace include:
  • Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Outlook 2003
  • Visio 2003
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Accounting packages
  • Bespoke applications

How fast will my application run?
Your applications run faster than when run on a local PC (unless you have an extremely fast PC). The reason is that secureVirtual Workspace is hosted on high performance servers, which are far faster than desktop PCs.

What type of computers can access secureVirtual Workspace?
  • PC or laptops running Windows or Linux
  • Macs running OS 10 or later
  • Thin client devices (Windows or Linux based)

Can my current applications be moved onto secureVirtual Workspace?
Yes, as long as these applications can run on Windows Server 2003 or Linux then they will almost certainly run on secureVirtual Workspace. Please contact our support team to ask about specific applications.

Why is my data safer with secureVirtual?
secureVirtual employs multiple strategies to keep your data safe. We are the only service of this type that continuously mirrors your data to a second data centre.

Physical Security
  • Servers are housed in carrier class data centres
  • 24/7/365 on-site security personnel
  • Card reader on all exterior and interior doors
  • CCTV surveillance and alarms
  • Power supply and generator backup at least N+1
  • Fire detection by Suppression Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus(VESDA)
  • Air conditioned with at least N+1
Protection from Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Phishing
  • At least 3 layers of virus scanning by different scanners
  • Spam prevention also protects from email viruses
  • Common network ports used by viruses are closed
  • Open ports are monitored for signs of attack with an automatic Network Intrusion Detection system
  • Regular snapshots (point in time copy) of data allow rollback to a consistent state, should a virus infection occur.
Data redundancy
  • Multiple copies of your data are stored so that if a disk, server, or even a data centre is destroyed another copy of your data remains intact.
  • RAID 5 or RAID 1 used on each server
  • Option of Data continually mirrored to a second data centre
  • Data backed up offsite
Intrusion Prevention
  • Powerful enterprise class firewalls guard all network access to your data
  • Network Intrusion Detection System monitors access and takes action if an intrusion is detected
Network Isolation
  • Because all data remains on the servers, and only mouse clicks, keystrokes, and screen updates move between the user and the servers, the secureVirtual network is isolated from your PC, Laptop or office network. A virus infection of any of these will not endanger your data on secureVirtual Workspace
  • All files copied onto your secureVirtual Workspace are forced through the multiple layers of virus scanning mentioned above

How often is my data backed up?
All data is continuously mirrored. End users have instant access to previous versions of their files which allows retrieval in the case that files get lost, deleted or over written.
Additional backups and snapshots of data can be configured according to your requirements

Can I print to the printers in my office?
Yes, if the printer is already set up on your PC then it will automatically appear in your secureVirtual Workspace session. Shared printers can also be set up to be accessible from the secureVirtual Workspace session of anyone in your organisation.

What happens if I lose connection to the Internet?
If you temporarily lose connection to the Internet while using secureVirtual Workspace your session continues to run on the servers unharmed. When you re-connect you will find your session just as you left it.
To prevent any Internet outage at your offices we set up a second Internet connection (ADSL, SDSL, DSL or other) that will automatically be used if you main connection goes down.
